Top Ten Tuesday [19]: Ten Finished Series I Have YET to Finish

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish.

Ten Finished Series I Have YET to Finish

Omg, you guys are going to freak out. I could be here all night listing every series I've started but not finished and the ones that I have yet to start. I'm only listing 10 series that I've already started and that I still think about from time to time. I'm not sure if I'll ever finish all of them and some of them definitely have priority over others, but oh well... Let's take a deep breath before you start thinking about punching me in the face for not finishing your favorite series...
Here we go!

1) The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare: I know, I know! I love this series, it's one of my favorites of all time and I haven't even finished it yet. I started reading this series when only the first three books were out and then I read the City of Fallen Angels when it came out but then the waiting was so long for City of Lost Souls that I had to re-read the whole series to remember what was going on, and then I got distracted and stopped at the fourth book again. So I told myself I would wait until all the book were published to pick it back up again, but then I already forgot how the fourth book ended, AGAIN! So catching up means re-reading the whole thing and it's such a big commitment that I've been putting it off forever *sighs*.

2) Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan: In my defense I'll say that I didn't know this one existed until the first movie came out and I was already way older than the characters in the books. I've read the first three books and I enjoyed them, but it still takes me bit to get used to the mind of a twelve-year-old when I'm twenty three. I'm trying though, I'll finish it this year, I promise!

3) Delirium by Lauren Oliver: This one is kind of an old one too. I read Delirium way back in the day and then I couldn't find the second book in any of my local bookstores. I read Pandemonium earlier this year and although I've been spoiled about Requiem, I still plan on reading it one of these days.

4) The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa: I've really enjoyed the first two books in this series, but I can't bring myself to just finish it already! I read the first one in 2013 and the second one in January of this year. And even though I really liked Julie's writing, I've encountered a lot of Fairy-related books that have blown my mind in the last year, that I'm always kind of scared of going back to this series and not liking it as much as I did before.

5) Across the Universe by Beth Revis: I've only read the first book in this series and I thought it was great, but it was kind of slow for me and I read it so long ago that in order to continue the series I would have to re-read it and there's so many other books to read that I just can't bring myself to do it. Also, it might be a minor detail but it still important to me: the cover change drove me insane, because I really loved the first set of covers and I hate that the third book will never match with the first two (which I already own).

6) The Maze Runner by James Dashner: I have a difficult relationship with this series. I loved the first book but the second one confused me so much that I didn't even know what the hell I had just read when I finished it. I'm convinced that James Dashner is some kind of genius and that I'm the one that just too stupid to get the plot, but still I've heard so many negative things about the The Death Cure that I haven't been able to convince myself to pick it up yet.

7) Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: I just don't think this series is for me. It took me two tries to get through the first book and I enjoyed it the second time around, but then the same thing happened to me with the second one. I already gave it two tries and just couldn't connect with the story again... It's on my DNF shelf for now and I'm just not sure if I'll ever pick it up again.

8) Divergent by Veronica Roth: Yeah, yeah... I know. I loved Divergent and I know this series is huge. But I didn't like Insurgent that much, it was really slow at the beginning and then everything happened way too fast at the end and it was like I was reading a completely different series. Then, I was spoiled about the ending of Allegiant and I just gave up. I still think about picking it back up sometimes, just because it is so popular that I feel like I should try, but I don't know if I ever will.

9) Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini: I'm not that ashamed of putting this one on this list, because I'm currently doing something about it. I've been buying the books in this series since 2011 when the first one came out. So it is kind of embarrassing that I just finished the first book last month, but I'm currently reading the second one and I'm finishing this series this month for sure. So yeah, I feel a little better about myself.

10) Goddess Test by Aimee Carter: I read the first book in this series for the first time in 2012, and I read it from a Spanish unofficial translation that was so bad that you could barely tell what was actually going on with the story, but even then I liked it a lot. A few months later, I actually bought the first and second book and the novella that had came out in English and I thought I would be fine if I just read the novella and then jump straight into the second book. I wasn't. So I re-read the first book and it was like reading a completely different thing than the first time and I was so confused that I put the series down and decided to give it time so the first version would fade from my memory before continuing the series. And now it's 2015 and I still haven't finished it.

Which of this series do you think I should finish first? Let me know in the comment section below!

  1. I have actually seen the Starcrossed series on a few lists this week! I've been wanting to pick that one up because I love the sound of it and it's quite unique for a YA novel. I know a lot of people like The Goddess Test series too. My TBR is always expanding!

    1. Starcrossed is quite unique, I'm in the middle of the second book right now and I'm really enjoying the author's take on Greek mythology.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. You've got a great list here. Lots of books that I haven't picked up but have been on my TBR forever.

It sucks that you got spoiled for Requiem but if it makes it feel better, I don't think it meets the standard set by the other two books. Same for Divergent..Allegiant just made me only have negative feelings towards the series, even though it used to be one of my favorites. Hopefully, you'll have a different experience though.

    1. Yeah, both of those seem to be quite painful finales. That's why I've been putting them off for so long. I still think I'll read Requiem some day, although I'm not sure about Allegiant.

  3. I tried to read The Maze Runner earlier this year, but completely failed. My sister loves the series but I just can't get into it. Great list!

    1. Yeah... It is just really confusing for me. I find the writing to be very different and I like it, but the plot is so convoluted that I can barely keep up.

  4. I gave up on the Delirium trilogy. I really couldn't get into it. :-( I hope you have some luck with the rest of the series that you want to continue! My TTT!

    1. I think I'll finish the Delirium trilogy even though a lot of people didn't like Requiem, I'd like some closure. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I'm so clueless that I didn't realize the sequels to Across the Universe had been published yet! Goodness.

    1. Hahaha... That has happened to me before too. It's hard to keep track of all the series, isn't it?

  6. PJ is a really great series, and the continuation series is even better so definitely keep reading them. And yeah, don't bother with Allegiant—save yourself now!

    1. I know... I really want to get through the PJ series so I can start the continuation, because I know the character are a bit older and I think I'll be able to relate more to them.

  8. Fabulous lists!! Some great series you've got going there! I flew through Mortal Instruments last year (that would have been painful to have to wait). I hope you go back to them! I'm reading Infernal Devices right now and love them even more!!

While I'm not the biggest fan of how Death Cure and Allegiant went, it wasn't necessarily the endings (I'm one of the few who loved Allegiants end) that I didn't like--I was taken off guard by the direction the series took. I'd still say they are worth reading though! Requiem, on the one hand, is one I loved, I hope you give it a chance!!

    1. I'm definitely coming back to TMI, I just loved that series, but the last few book are kind of intimidating, so I've let them wait of my shelf more than they should.
I still plan on reading Requiem and maybe even Death Cure, but I don't see myself picking up Allegiant any time soon.

  10. You have to finish TMI series, it's just too good for you to miss out on it. I had trouble with the Maze Runner too. I read all the books but then I was like, what just happened? I loved the Starcrossed triology! It's one of my favorites. Maybe you should finish Starcrossed before TMI, now that I think about it, lol. I think a lot of us never finished the Divergent series. Thanks for visiting Bookworm Book Reviews!

    1. I'm definitely going to finish both the TMI and the Starcrossed series. I just finished Dreamless today and it was pretty good, so I'll be picking up Goddess in a few days.

  11. Aw, I need to just START some of these. *flails* I really want to read the Across the Universe and Iron Fey books. SOMEDAY. *glares at gargantuan TBR* I have so so many books to read. XD Oh oh but I'm kind of the same with Daughter of Smoke and Bone! Like, I adored the first book. I gave it 5-stars and will wail to the heavens on how much I love it. But the second two?!? I didn't GET them. They were confusing and the writing was way too flowery and full of purple prose for me. :(
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

    1. It's really frustrating this thing with Daughter of Smoke and Bone, right? I feel like I'm reading some other series and not the one everyone loves, because I just can't get into the story and it takes me forever to wrap my mind around this world. But oh well, I supposed it's just not for everyone.
