Waiting on Wednesday [34]: Tell the Wind and Fire by Sarah Rees Brennan

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
My pick for this week is:

Title: Tell the Wind and Fire
Author: Sarah Rees Brennan
Expected pub. date: April 5th, 2016
Genre: YA Fantasy

Tell the Wind & Fire is about a young girl called Lucie who lives in a New York very different from the New York we know: the city is torn between two very different kinds of magic, and Lucie’s own family was torn apart years ago by that conflict. Lucie wears magic rings and carries a burden of guilt she can’t share with anyone.
The light in her life is her sweetheart boyfriend Ethan, but it turns out Ethan has a secret too: a soulless doppelganger created by dark magic, who has to conceal the face identical to Ethan’s with a hood fastened by a collar nobody but a Light magician with magical rings can take off… and who introduces himself to both of them by, for reasons nobody can understand, saving Ethan’s life…

Why am I waiting for this book? I've never read a book by Sarah Rees Brennan and I only know of her through Cassandra Clare and the Magnus Bane short stories. But it's kind of hard to gauge a writing style when it's intermixed with someone else's, so I've been wanting to give her own books a chance. This one sounds pretty amazing and I've read very little on doppelgangers but the topic appeals to me. Besides... New York is kind of my soft spot regarding settings. Overall, it should be a perfect recipe for awesomeness, I have great hopes for this one!

Waiting on Wednesday [33]: The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
My pick for this week is:

Title: The Forbidden Wish
Author: Jessica Khoury
Expected pub. date: February 23rd, 2016
Genre: Fantasy - Retelling

She is the most powerful Jinni of all. He is a boy from the streets. Their love will shake the world...
When Aladdin discovers Zahra's jinni lamp, Zahra is thrust back into a world she hasn't seen in hundreds of years -- a world where magic is forbidden and Zahra's very existence is illegal. She must disguise herself to stay alive, using ancient shape-shifting magic, until her new master has selected his three wishes.

But when the King of the Jinn offers Zahra a chance to be free of her lamp forever, she seizes the opportunity—only to discover she is falling in love with Aladdin. When saving herself means betraying him, Zahra must decide once and for all: is winning her freedom worth losing her heart?
As time unravels and her enemies close in, Zahra finds herself suspended between danger and desire in this dazzling retelling of Arabian Nights from acclaimed author Jessica Khoury.

Why am I waiting for this book? The premise sounds fantastic! Aladdin used to be one of my favorite movies when I was little and I've never read a retelling of Arabian Nights. Also there aren't many jinni-related books in YA, at least to my knowledge. I've only read As You Wish by Jackson Pearce and it was a long time ago but I remember thinking that there should be more books on that subject because I really enjoyed it, so I'm hoping this one will turn out amazing too.

What do you think of my pick for this week WOW?

Waiting on Wednesday [32]: Reign of Shadows by Sophie Jordan

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
My pick for this week is:

Title: Reign of Shadows
Author: Sophie Jordan
Expected pub. date: February 9th, 2016
Genre: YA High Fantasy
Seventeen years ago, an eclipse cloaked the kingdom of Relhok in perpetual darkness. In the chaos, an evil chancellor murdered the king and queen and seized their throne. Luna, Relhok’s lost princess, has been hiding in a tower ever since. Luna’s survival depends on the world believing she is dead.
But that doesn’t stop Luna from wanting more. When she meets Fowler, a mysterious archer braving the woods outside her tower, Luna is drawn to him despite the risk. When the tower is attacked, Luna and Fowler escape together. But this world of darkness is more treacherous than Luna ever realized.
With every threat stacked against them, Luna and Fowler find solace in each other. But with secrets still unspoken between them, falling in love might be their most dangerous journey yet.
With lush writing and a star–crossed romance, Reign of Shadows is Sophie Jordan at her best.

Why am I waiting for this book? I've only read one book by Sophie Jordan before, even though I've added most of her work to my TBR pile and bought many of her books. For some reason I keep putting them off. However, this one in particular sounds like it could be the one book that makes me want to read everything she's ever written. I have really high hopes for this one, the premise sounds amazing, the cover is gorgeous and rumor has it that it's her best work yet. So I'm crossing my fingers and wishing it into awesomeness!

Waiting on Wednesday [27]: Arrows by Melissa Gorzelanczyk

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
My pick for this week is:

Title: Arrows
Author: Melissa Gorzelanczyk
Expected pub. date: January 26th, 2016

Genre: YA Contemporary Fantasy
A modern cupid story set in present-day Wisconsin combining the fantastical elements of Greek mythology with the contemporary drama of MTV's Teen Mom.
People don’t understand love. If they did, they’d get why dance prodigy Karma Clark just can’t say goodbye to her boyfriend, Danny. No matter what he says or does or how he hurts her, she can’t stay angry with him . . . and can’t stop loving him. But there’s a reason why Karma is helpless to break things off: she’s been shot with a love arrow.
Aaryn, son of Cupid, was supposed to shoot both Karma and Danny but found out too late that the other arrow in his pack was useless. And with that, Karma’s life changed forever. One pregnancy confirmed. One ballet scholarship lost. And dream after dream tossed to the wind.
A clueless Karma doesn’t know that her toxic relationship is Aaryn’s fault . . . but he’s going to get a chance to make things right. He’s here to convince Danny to man up and be there for Karma. But what if this god from Mount Olympus finds himself falling in love with a beautiful dancer from Wisconsin who can never love him in return?
This fast-paced debut novel explores the internal & external conflicts of a girl who finds herself inexplicably drawn to a boy who seemingly doesn't reciprocate her feelings, touching on the issues of love, sex and responsibility, with a heroine struggling to control her destiny--perfect for fans of Katie McGarry's novels and MTV’s 16 and Pregnant.

Why am I waiting for this book? I saw this one while browsing on Goodreads and I immediately thought that it would be something I would enjoy. I don't know about the Teen Mom part, but at least the part that has to do with Greek mythology is totally my thing. It kind of reminds of My Ex from Hell by Telulah Darling, but I'm really interested in seeing a take on Cupid. Besides, this is the author's debut novel and I'm always excited to find new authors :D

Waiting on Wednesday [26]: The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
My pick for this week is:

Title: The Love That Split the World
Author: Emily Henry
Expected pub. date: January 26th, 2016
Genre: YA Sci-Fi / Time travel
Natalie Cleary must risk her future and leap blindly into a vast unknown for the chance to build a new world with the boy she loves. Natalie’s last summer in her small Kentucky hometown is off to a magical start... until she starts seeing the “wrong things.” They’re just momentary glimpses at first—her front door is red instead of its usual green, there’s a pre-school where the garden store should be. But then her whole town disappears for hours, fading away into rolling hills and grazing buffalo, and Nat knows something isn’t right. That’s when she gets a visit from the kind but mysterious apparition she calls “Grandmother,” who tells her: “You have three months to save him.” The next night, under the stadium lights of the high school football field, she meets a beautiful boy named Beau, and it’s as if time just stops and nothing exists. Nothing, except Natalie and Beau.Emily Henry’s stunning debut novel is Friday Night Lights meets The Time Traveler’s Wife, and perfectly captures those bittersweet months after high school, when we dream not only of the future, but of all the roads and paths we’ve left untaken.

Why am I waiting for this book?  This one is another really promising debut novel. I think the premise sounds pretty cool. I've been wanting to get into time travel novels a bit more and this one sounds perfect for me to do just that. It makes me think of The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater for some reason and I really like that series but I have never found anything similar, so maybe this is it! I'm intrigued to see how this one turns out, so fingers crossed!

Waiting on Wednesday [25]: Shallow Graves by Kali Walace

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
My pick for this week is:

Title: Shallow Graves
Author: Kali Walace
Expected pub. date: January 26th, 2016
Genre: YA Paranormal Horror

For fans of Holly Black and Nova Ren Suma, a gripping, hauntingly atmospheric novel about murder, revenge, and a world where monsters—human and otherwise—lurk at the fringes.
When seventeen-year-old Breezy Lin wakes up in a shallow grave one year after her death, she doesn’t remember who killed her or why. All she knows is that she’s somehow conscious—and not only that, she’s able to sense who around her is hiding a murderous past. In life, Breezy was always drawn to the elegance of the universe and the mystery of the stars. Now she must set out to find answers and discover what is to become of her in the gritty, dangerous world to which she now belongs—where killers hide in plain sight and a sinister cult is hunting for strange creatures like her. What she finds is at once empowering, redemptive, and dangerous.
Tense, complex, and wholly engaging, Shallow Graves is a stunning first novel from Kali Wallace.

Why am I waiting for this book? I don't usually keep track of debut authors and most of the time I end up reading the new book or new series by an old favorite author, but next year I plan on deliberately reading a few debut novels to get me out of my comfort zone and give a new author a try. This one sounds really good, the theme being paranormal is something I know I like, but the concept seems original enough to be its own new thing, so I'm really excited to give this one a chance.

Waiting on Wednesday [24]: The Dirt on Ninth Grave by Darynda Jones

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
My pick for this week is:

Title: The Dirt on Ninth Grave
Author: Darynda Jones
Expected pub. date: January 12th, 2016
Genre: Adult Urban Fantasy

Warning: This is the ninth installment in a series and the description contains spoilers for the previous books.

In a small village in New York lives Jane Doe, a girl with no memory of who she is or where she came from. So when she is working at a diner and slowly begins to realize she can see dead people, she's more than a little taken aback. Stranger still are the people entering her life. They seem to know things about her. Things they hide with lies and half-truths. Soon, she senses something far darker. A force that wants to cause her harm, she is sure of it. Her saving grace comes in the form of a new friend she feels she can confide in and the fry cook, a devastatingly handsome man whose smile is breathtaking and touch is scalding. He stays close, and she almost feels safe with him around.
But no one can outrun their past, and the more lies that swirl around her—even from her new and trusted friends—the more disoriented she becomes, until she is confronted by a man who claims to have been sent to kill her. Sent by the darkest force in the universe. A force that absolutely will not stop until she is dead. Thankfully, she has a Rottweiler. But that doesn't help in her quest to find her identity and recover what she's lost. That will take all her courage and a touch of the power she feels flowing like electricity through her veins. She almost feels sorry for him. The devil in blue jeans. The disarming fry cook who lies with every breath he takes. She will get to the bottom of what he knows if it kills her. Or him. Either way.

Why am I waiting for this book? For a book series to hold my interest for eight books is pretty impressive, for it not being YA is downright astounding. This is the ninth book is the Charley Davidson series, which is kind of my guilty pleasure. I just can't get enough of the mixture between soap opera(ish) drama and the paranormal elements. The protagonist has to be the most sarcastic and funniest character I've ever encountered and I just love her to pieces. The world is fantastic and every book comes with new challenges and each time the stakes seem to get higher so I can't wait for it to be out!

Why am I waiting?

I've never read anything by Sarah Fire before, but this title grabbed my attention when I was perusing 2016's releases. I'm on a high-fantasy kick lately, and I'm always looking for something of the likes of Sarah J. Maas around. This one sounds like it has potential, so I'm excited about it!

What do you think about this one?

I'd love to read your thoughts.

Waiting on Wednesday [22]: Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
This week pick is:

Truthwitch
by Susan Dennard
The Witchlands #1
Expected Pub. Date: January 5th, 2016
Tor Teen
Young Adult Fantasy

Premise:
On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.
In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.
Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.
Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.
Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

Why am I waiting?

I've never read anything by Susan Dennard before. I've heard a lot about her since she's best friends with Sarah J Maas and I love watching Sarah's Q&As on YouTube and I'm intrigued. I really want to see for myself if she's as good a writer as Sarah. I know there's another series written by Susan that's already out, but this one sounds more like something I would enjoy. and I'm really excited to get my hands on it. What do you think? Have you read anything by Susan Dennard?

Waiting on Wednesday [21]: Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
This week pick is:

Passenger
by Alexandra Bracken
Passenger #1
Expected Pub. Date: January 5th, 2016
Disney Hyperion
Young Adult Sci-Fi Fantasy

Premise:passage, n.
i. A brief section of music composed of a series of notes and flourishes.
ii. A journey by water; a voyage.
iii. The transition from one place to another, across space and time.
In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.
Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods—a powerful family in the colonies—and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, Nicholas’ passenger, can find. In order to protect her, he must ensure she brings it back to them— whether she wants to or not.
Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home . . . forever.

Why am I waiting?

I absolutely loved The Darkest Minds Trilogy by Alexandra Bracken and I've been anticipating her next book for what seems like forever. I'm really excited about this one. I haven't read that many books about time-traveling, but I'm sure this one is going to be awesome! I can barely wait!

What do you think about this one?

I'd love to read your thoughts.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming books we are looking forward to being released.
This week pick is:

Bookishly Ever After
by Isabel Bandeira
Ever After #1
Expected Pub. Date: January 16th, 2015
Spencer Hill Contemporary
Young Adult Contemporary Romance

Premise:

In a perfect world, sixteen-year-old Phoebe Martins’ life would be a book. Preferably a YA novel with magic and a hot paranormal love interest. Unfortunately, her life probably wouldn’t even qualify for a quiet contemporary. But when Phoebe finds out that Dev, the hottest guy in the clarinet section, might actually have a crush on her, she turns to her favorite books for advice. Phoebe overhauls her personality to become as awesome as her favorite heroines and win Dev’s heart. But if her plan fails, can she go back to her happy world of fictional boys after falling for the real thing?

Why am I waiting?

I'm really curious about this one. The main character sounds like someone I could relate to with no problem. I'm really hoping this one is a great, funny and unpretentious  contemporary read because that's what the premise makes me think of. And this year, I've been reading mostly High-Fantasy or "darker" Contemporary books, so I'm really looking forward for this one to balance it out.

What do you think about this one?

I'd love to read your thoughts.

Expected Pub. Date: September 1st, 2015
Bloomsbury USA Childrens
Young Adult High Fantasy

Premise:

Sarah J. Maas's New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series reaches new heights in this sweeping fourth volume.

Why am I waiting?

I'm currently half-way through Crown of Midnight and I'm planning on reading Heir Of Fire as soon as I finish that one. I'm loving the series and I can't wait to finally catch up. I haven't even read the synopsis for Queen of Shadows so I can avoid spoiling myself, but I already sense it's going to be great! Seriously Sarah J. Maas is becoming one of my favorite authors and this month I'm reading everything she's ever published.
